Big Railroad Blues

Onondaga War Memorial

A barnburner, charged up and powerful. Nice clear musical ideas throughout the jam.

Playin' In The Band
Oct. 27, 1971
Onondaga War Memorial

Like 10.23 this has a burning, agressive quality and hard-driving pulse that gives it huge horsepower. Playin's eternal metamorphosis on display here.

Onondaga War Memorial

Jerry's soloing throughout this one is fantastic, precise and rockin'.

Onondaga War Memorial

Nice version, band kicks into gear and sounds great, ironing out a few kinks in the mix earlier in the set. Early Keith show = dynamite stuff.

China Cat Sunflower -> I Know You Rider
Oct. 24, 1971
Easttown Theatre

Overlooked. No peace-and-love version, this is rock and freaking roll. The transition to Ryder is pure shredding genius.

Cumberland Blues

Jai-Alia Fronton

This is from '74, not '73. No show on this date, as far as I know.
Wharf Rat

Jai-Alai Fronton

May and June '74 are both pretty awesome. They were definitely putting something new into the song during this time. This is a great version, interesting and exploratory - coming out of a killer Eyes, too.

Jai-Alai Fronton

June '74 is Scarlet all over. Listen to a few from this era in sequence and you hear how they're still discovering where they want to go with it. This one has great energyand bounce. Perfect.
China Doll

The Omni

This is really the sweetest version I know. I've always felt this song was under-appreciated, but that it played an important role in smoothing out the bumps at the end of especially wicked jams. This is the one for that. Just perfect.

Fun good times Scarlet with his royal Philness.
