Who Do You Love
March 9, 1966
Owsley's House (rehearsal)
Pig is on fire and the band revs to 6000 rpm. Jerry's tone is a shredding crisp fist full of razor blades.

Samson and Delilah
Oct. 15, 1976
Shrine Auditorium
Lickety split drummer precision here and a stylin' strut in the heart of a great 2nd set.

Mama Tried
Oct. 15, 1976
Shrine Auditorium
Solid shitkicker. "As usual, dedicated to our equipment crew". Lol, Bobby.

Might As Well

Shrine Auditorium
Great party starter. This song always signals good time ahead.

Looks Like Rain
Oct. 14, 1976
Shrine Auditorium
Sweet slow buildup to an explosion of emotion and Jer's flying guitar work. A strong version.

Cold Rain and Snow
Sept. 28, 1976
Onondaga County War Memorial
CR&S was always my favorite opener and this one doesn't disappoint at all. I always felt like they held it for when they were all feeling amped up and ready to play. Something about the groove, and something that harkens back to their earliest repertoire makes it extra special. Plus this one has serious butt.
Franklin's Tower
Sept. 27, 1976
Community War Memorial Auditorium
Is that what that is? Whatever you call it, it's also a pinnacle of exuberant musicianship and just simply amazing. At 14:00 or so Jerry teases China Cat, which had dropped out of rotation at this stage. What a gem.
The Other One
Sept. 27, 1976
Community War Memorial Auditorium
Only nine TOO this year, no Dark Stars, and not many PiTB. They weren't going for the long and wild explorations of the deep weird so much as perfecting the tight ensemble musicality that comes to a head in the great '77 tours. But this TOO stands out for its part in a long extended 2nd set jam that covers so much ground at supersonic speed. Doesn't go to mars, but covers the earth in low orbit more than once.
Help On The Way > Slipknot > Franklin's Tower
Sept. 27, 1976
Community War Memorial Auditorium
The Help>Slip part of this is absolutely rock solid. Twisting and turning at high speed, they don't miss a beat. One of the tightest live ones I know of, and should be much higher just for this. The Franklin's is joyous, and long, just exactly perfect.
Lazy Lightnin' -> Supplication
Sept. 27, 1976
Community War Memorial Auditorium
You know how when old head's talk about '76 and mention the great LL>Sup jams? Well here it is. This kicks off and just doesn't stop. The whole show features one of the greatest 2nd sets of all time, and this one shows you earlier on in the show just how ready they were to go further and farther faster.
