Samson and Delilah
Sept. 23, 1976
Cameron Indoor Stadium, Duke U
Bobby tears it up, not just vocally, but through brilliant guitar work

Looks Like Rain

No doubt with a better source this would be high up on the list. Listen to Jerry's supersonic flyby as Bobby and Donna caress the out chorus.

Lazy Lightnin' -> Supplication
Sept. 23, 1976
Cameron Indoor Stadium, Duke U
Help us Charlie Miller, you're our only hope! Seriously though, this is a blisteringly hot version. Don't miss it.

Dancin' in the Streets

Club Front Studio
Very cool studio rehearsals with new grooves and wildly flanged sound. Fall '76 versions are some of the best, and here they are still in the egg.

The Music Never Stopped
Aug. 4, 1976
Roosevelt Stadium
Jerry tears this one apart with a shredding solo. The link here is bass-heavy SBD with some decay, but just brilliant playing by all.

Blow Away
Aug. 27, 1972
Old Renaissance Faire Grounds
You're a bunch of loons. This one sucks. Real heads know that the best ever was at the free show at Sprekels Bandshell in Golden Gate Park back in '67. I know because I had it on a Maxell 46min cassette that I traded away for a ride up to Buffalo back in '74.
Playin' In The Band
Sept. 24, 1976
William and Mary College Hall
Swirling and swimmingly intricate and exploratory. Never gets dull, but cruises along at high speed into two very interesting, musically challenging Supplication transitions.
Next Time You See Me
Aug. 7, 1971
Golden Hall
Tight and right. Great harp solo, and of course Pig's voice is perfect.
China Cat Sunflower -> I Know You Rider
Aug. 7, 1971
Golden Hall
Nice biting tone and electrified feel to the CC, reminding that the early Dead were a combination of sweet country cowboy poetry, and dangerous hard acid rock. The IKYR also plays in this open place. Nice version, and thanks for DP35! What a treat of a show.
Hard to Handle
Aug. 7, 1971
Golden Hall
Hot and greasy, like the best of them. I love how Phil just floors it around minute six. But this one doesn't quite shoot me over the falls in a barrel the way some do: Bobby's solo is a bit limp by comparison to others from this era and the crescendo before the final verse drops out before Pigpen comes back in. There are so many great ones to choose from in '71. Check out the April Fillmore East shows, ouch!
