Because every song in this show deserves to be here. This is a solid rocking version, just excellent.

One of the perfect ones, and one of the last songs from this epic show to be posted here: A near perfect show from '72, one of the best.

Jer: "This is a new song... and it goes exactly like this". Pigpen: "No it don't." Either way, it kicks like the good stuff.

Shocked it isn't here yet. Did you stop at Donna's beastly howl? If you did, you missed Jerry rip spacetime. Listen up and dig this Playin', really.

"Thank's Texans" Phil sez to the NY crowd. This one is a rollicking good time. Jer is all over it behind a great Cowboy Bob showcase.

Wharf Rat

MAMU>TOO>Mexicali>TOO>Wharf Rat. More or less one of the most mind-boggling combination of sounds, songs, ideas, jams, and outer-spheres weirdness of this rare beautiful period of one drummer, Keith, Pigpen, and not-yet-Donna.

You're both right on about this one. I'd add that the TOO>Mexicali>TOO reinforces the point. I mean, how often was Mexicali an island of form inside a deep-space soundscape? They had already found the TOO>MAMU segues in November a couple of times, and I love the idea that they just said, 'that works, now let's turn it inside out and see what happens...'.

Part of a great 40+ minute NFA>LL>GDTRFB>NFA gobsmacker. Significant, I reckon, because Pigpen was just back from his sick leave and this was his first time stretching out.

Ridiculously heightened energy. Playing so intensely that they almost fall into an exploded, exhausted pile, but they pull themselves, up and keep going one more time around the track. Great fun.

Deep deep Pig. Sounds so nice to have him back after the Fall tour without him.
