Candyman

Almost a prayer. Stripped down, pure, harmonized and beautiful. Fans of the acoustic Candyman shouldn't pass this one by.

Sweet and solid show opener. A pure expression of the peak '70 year sound. Strap in and enjoy the show....

Yeehaw, but that's a sweet rare tune. Put Sawmill next to Slewfoot for gems from the era. Awesome stuff.

An acoustic lovely. I think DG is there on backup. It's rough-hewn, like just a couple offriends jamming on the verge of the bad crazy 1970s.

Acoustic wow factor, with beautiful harmonies. Unfortunate gap towards the end, but worth it still.

Thanks, brother. That makes good sense to me.

Where does this circulate? Not on DP 26 with the rest of the show and I'd love to hear it. There's a beautiful but short version of Hunter singing it live on YouTube as gentle minuet. Apparently it started as a real song and got outer-spheres weird in the studio. This the only known live version (or tape over live feedback) of it and remains my grail point for hardcore psychedelic Dead. Any leads out there?

Note for note perfect Dead. This show is unbelievably full of outrageously beautiful playing, it blows me away how under-the-radar this is. I know it's a cliché but this one is really a "forgotten gem".

Played just two times ever, right before Pigpen went into hospital. Wonder if they would have kept it in rotation otherwise? It's a pretty hard-rocking low and dirty blues, and a rare gem indeed. Nice mix on the C. Miller cleanup.

This one could go much higher on the list. Brilliant jam, great transition. Pretty much perfect.
