Tennessee Jed

Crisp soloing and clear, limpid lines from the inexhaustible well of musical ideas here. Jed has never been my top song, but Jer just sparkles here.

Smooth and cool. C.Miller's cleanup brings out a lush mix that just sounds sooooo good. Great segue into Truckin', too.

Smooth as butter, this one. Note for note beauty.

Don't let the murky and C+ sound stop you from this gem. Would someone with C. Miller's phone number ask him about this show, please?

Continues one of the great stretches of peak Dead right after Veneta. Great jam, B- sound quality though.

Playin' In The Band
Nov. 7, 1971
Harding Theatre

Sounds like Keith's on a honky-tonk acoustic, well mic'd (amplified (well who knows maybe otherwise too)) for this cool '71 version. Phil's all over it too. Really hot show - just amazing how they're pushing and pulling against the melody before the out chorus.

Surf punk! 10 years before the Sex Pistols. Who said these guys were hippies?!

Total '67 insanity. Fully shredding, the fastest version I know from back when the boys were considered menaces to straight society. A raging mad maelstrom with a penchant for dosing the uninitiated. This whole show explodes.
Eyes Of The World
June 30, 1974
Civic Center

Show is something different from the juggernauts from earlier on the tour, so doesn't get all the love it deserves. This Eyes is so inventive and exploratory, subtle yet bizarre. Great stuff. Nice Slipknot tease around 11:15. It's the 2nd one in the show after the melt from UJB back into Playin' earlier.
Scarlet Begonias
June 30, 1974
Civic Center

The groove, the groove: Captures the complexity and beauty of Scarlet all the while up on its toes for a traipsing sensual and funtime dance-along. Hot mellow summertime Dead goodness like all the best of '73-'74.
