Dark Star

For me there are 2 -- this one and 2/27/69. As with all dark stars, they are completely different songs, and, in that sense, somewhat unfair to compare to the other with the idea that they may be the same song. But each of these ruminates on fundamental theme -- goes off to space in different places and returns. I love some of the other DS -- 2/13/70, 4/8/72 and 9/21/72 in particular contain unbelievable parts and moments (as do some of the more primal 68 versions) -- I guess I could nitpick and say they are not as cohesive as Veneta and Filly West, which are the ones I always return to. Veneta for its wonderful, technical prowess and fearless exploration of the frightening beauty of the cosmos. Fillmore west for its unbridled embracement of primal psychedelia. Both to me are equally beautiful and stand above the others (albeit maybe just by a bit). oh -- billy just kills it in Veneta also -- love it with just him.
