U.S. Blues (Wave That Flag)
Oct. 16, 1974
Winterland Arena

An overlooked version because of the famous movie version from the 19th October, but good and on the money.

They really groove on the outro vocals-no shrieking, just driving on and on. Not at the top but a VG 78 version

Dark Star
Feb. 28, 1969
Fillmore West

This is every bit as brilliant as the night before. In fact this whole show is part of a run that is nigh on perfection. Start with 22/2/69 at the Dream Bowl and go from there. The more I listen to this period of Dead playing, the more I think it is just the best.
Dupree's Diamond Blues

2nd best to June 28 1974 at Boston.
St. Stephen
Feb. 22, 1969
Dream Bowl

One of the top 5 shows of 1969. Superb versions of each and every song. As good as anything from the Fillmore West run the following week.

This is as good as it gets. 1969 Dark Stars are in my heart just now. So many of them just get it so right. Later ones might be longer, but never better. This whole show is stellar.
