Rock music as it should be. The band is really on this night and this song just flies.

Donna and Bobby really sing it-NO screeching. Their singing throughout this June 76 run is just fine. For all you Donna haters, listen to this

Comes A Time

Strand Lyceum
Solid, well sung, nice little solo, and it is so sweet after the huge UJB>Wharf Rat>DS>Sugar Mag that comes before it. It just fits in so well.

Help On The Way > Slipknot > Franklin's Tower
June 24, 1976
Tower Theatre
This is a solid first set show that soars more and more. The Promised Land is excellent!!! The 2nd set starts where they left off and H>S>F is really one of the best. I'm listening to the whole run of shows from June 1976. I feel that it's a run that ranks along the top runs the Dead ever did. The singing of Donna(no screeching) and Bobby(ditto), Keith's piano is inventive and jazzy,Jerry astute and nimble-also in good voice. Give em all a whirl
Friend of the Devil
June 10, 1976
Boston Music Hall
After the break and this was one of the staple songs that got a new makeover by becoming slow. sometimes very slooooow. which I personally don't go for. However this version still has a bounce and that lovely mellow 1976 groove going,so it never drags.
Help On The Way > Slipknot > Franklin's Tower
June 14, 1976
Beacon Theatre
I'm listening to this run starting at the 3rd of June. The Help>Slipknot>Franklin's are all excellent but in keeping with that lovely calm laid back vibe that the GD had in 1976. I'm really digging that sound. The rest must have done them all good.
Morning Dew
May 22, 1977
The Sportatorium
Better show than Cornell IMHO, and this is the best Dew from post 1974.
Cryptical Envelopment
Oct. 19, 1971
Northrop Auditorium, U. of Minn.
Tight, well sung, into great drums from Billy then in comes Phil with that thundering base line& were driving into The Other One which then spirals into acid space territory for a while then back pouding and after Jerry singing "He's got to do die, you know he's got to die" several times slips into Wharf Rat! Is it August West that Jerry has just been thinking and singing about??? Maybe.
