Why Don't We Do It In The Road
Nov. 3, 1984
Berkeley Community Theatre

Best one by a long shot. Garcia and Weir sing this one

She Belongs To Me
April 28, 1985
Frost Amphitheatre

One of my favorite Jerry (Dylan) ballads. This one really stands above the rest. Jerry's voice on this could melt a heart of stone.

Shakedown Street

Community War Memorial Auditorium

Funky, filthy & monsterous. Little known b/c it's hard to find good sound of this one. Try neumann's on archive.

Jack Straw
Sept. 9, 1987
Civic Center

Ever hear a tiger scream? Best Jack Straw I can remember, and I've seen a lot of them. This entire first set was a blast.
Death Don't Have No Mercy
Sept. 29, 1989
Shoreline Amphitheatre

Might be one of the sickest Garcia solos ever played? There's absolutely no question about it. His guitar work is unbelievable, and his vocals are spot on, too. Funny thing is that he was kind of off for the rest of the show.
Jack Straw
Jan. 11, 1979
Nassau Coliseum

Jerry surely shreds, and the acid/Clive lyric is slick, but good God, the vocals are horrific (Donna). Loved the goat comment. If you haven't heard it, give a listen to 9-9-87. Saw several Jack Straws on this list, but Providence is the one I think of when someone mentions Jack Straw.
Feel Like A Stranger
March 2, 1987
Henry J. Kaiser Convention Center

Best Stranger ever played - no exaggeration. Yeah, Weir's voice cracks in the 2nd stanza, but I haven't heard another Stranger that holds a candle to it. It chugs along at a sultry pace that gives it the groove the song is meant to have, Jerry and Brent's backup vocals are spot on and Garcia's jam at the end takes it to places the song has never been. Give it a listen, and don't miss the Ramble on Rose or the China>Rider either.
Aiko Aiko
July 6, 1987
Civic Arena

This one needs to be voted way on up! Always been one of my favorites. Come on, man - it's the Nevilles sitting in on an Iko. Hard to tell who was having the most fun up there, but I think it was Jerry.
