Camp Randall Field House

At :30 Pig switches from tambourine to organ and we're off! These early '71 performances showcase Kreutzmann reveling in sweet space. Driving.

Loser
Feb. 19, 1971
Capitol Theater

A delicate, tight, searching super early version of a staple. Kruetzmann plays it light and springy and that 1971 Lesh caramel bass guitar!

Tennessee Jed

Boston Music Hall

If you know this smooth customer of a show, you know how drynamic [yes, I typed that] and user friendly this TJ is. An always welcome visitor.

Sugaree
June 26, 1976
Auditorium Theatre

Few things better than a June '76 Sugaree. Garcia with the first Travis Bean just sketches with the lightest, barest of precious metal filaments.

Paramount Northwest Theatre

Summer '72 Jed: Sweet dynamics & precision engineering. Weir & Kreutzmann stir it up during Garcia's guitar break.

Scarlet Begonias
Sept. 9, 1974
Alexandra Palace

DP7 opener, not show opener (although it opened 9/11/1974). Slash & burn. The interplay between Godchaux's Rhodes & Garcia is a favorite feature here. When Godchaux switches to grand piano @8:00, the palette changes in a subtle way. Master class.
Scarlet Begonias
Oct. 1, 1976
Market Square Arena

Led by some chocolately dancing Lesh bass substructure, this Scarlet snaps, crackles, and pops.
Dancin' in the Streets
Aug. 4, 1976
Roosevelt Stadium

Loose and kind of all over the place, but Lesh really keeps things heavy and together. This one gets better as it goes and, when it's over, it's been a pretty interesting little trip.
Dark Star
March 24, 1970
Pirates World

It's all ocean-fresh and delightful, and then things take a mysterious, dramatic turn @3:00 and the group takes us to another level. And the cut is about as kind as it can be - all of a sudden you're in the middle of Xanadu. A fab Dark Star!
China Cat Sunflower -> I Know You Rider
Feb. 24, 1974
Winterland Arena

Slinky and cool. A pleasure craft. Garcia's barely touching the guitar and yet ALL THIS SOUND!
