Heavens! It took a Dave's Picks to get this on the board! Soft, seductive, dark, and pretty much perfectly realized. Guitar break: shit yeah.

Bold, sharp, confident version with plenty of 1977 squoosh. This version has that great '77 restraint with Garcia speaking in MuTron tongues.

Attention. To. Detail. - ESP Weir. Not the world's greatest recording, but the band is bubbly & effortless.

Listened to this on a big PA outside over the summer and it's so alive, athletic, and filled with beautiful instrumental cross-talk. Improv!

Garcia is definitely in complete control with the guitar break. Zesty. Otherwise, this version is a little clumsy to me - part Hart flopping all over like a carp. Flip side there is this one has lots of energy. And when the band catches a wave, it rides it beautifully. Still, to me earlier '77 is a great breeding ground for some top flight Berthas. A little rot feels like it had started to settle in by the fall. Missed connections, forgotten words. But the soul is still there.

Like many from this period, things develop slowly, but the long improv is always top sleeve. An underrated time for spaced out Dead. Group is in elite form.

I think one sounds pretty kick ass. Granted, a ton of kick (assuming its Kreutzmann b/c its pretty steady for all the wild shit they're doing). This shouldn't be tied in the standings with a version featuring Edie Brickell. I don't care what you think of her. Just wrong. By the way, Garcia crushes.
