This one is the sound of a band that knows it can do pretty much anything. Smooth and fiery.

They leave just a little bit of Coasters in here to make it swing like hell. Actually, a fair amount of Coasters. This is a killer piece of grime they should have played much much more.

Wirey tension & release. Not a big fan of the Feelin' Groovy jam (subtracts a point), but this C>R is undeniable. Has moments as good as any they had with this vista cruiser. Not sure I place anything above 8/27/72, but this has a unique feel. This whole show shines - one to which I return frequently. Oh, Kreutzmann is motherfucker.

Between Weir, Godchaux, and Garcia, they have this sucker cornered. Gets better with each listen.

Lakeland Civic Center

Spicey opener after the behemoth 5/19 show and a day off to travel 450 miles from Atlanta to Lakeland. No big deadlines, load-ins, sound checks. Just stretch out and think - huh, what do we start with? All the great, quirky attributes of May 1977 are in this sporty little number. Lesh is an early leader in the clubhouse. Really setting the pace and mood. Then at about 2:30 Garcia swoops in and takes off. Clearly, the bubbly storyteller guitar is still in session. Endless ideas and permutations of ways to express them. That's why. This month.

Because you have excellent taste, DS67, I'll forgive the O's and Ravens. I grew up an O's fan and then Angelos tried to stop DC from getting a team and I jumped ship. I didn't go to MD, but I've always been a Terps fan (back to the Lefty days).
