Sugaree
June 4, 1976
Paramount Theatre

Another example of how Sugaree thrived in 6/76: Garcia's sweet, mellow, bubbly silver thread guitar and group dynamics both jaunty & subtle. Primo.

Tennessee Jed
Nov. 23, 1973
County Coliseum

If possible, a very contemplative TJ. Everyone's in apex '73 form, esp. Godchaux who's mixed fairly high to good effect.

St. Stephen
Nov. 5, 1970
Capitol Theater

Of the heavenly 1970 Capitol Theater St. Stephens. Just a beautiful union between audience and group. Killer Stephen! CRUNCH!

Here Comes Sunshine
Sept. 26, 1973
War Memorial

Show opener - the perseverence is what really sells me on this one. A struggle, but a worthy one b/c the spoils are lush. Sneaky great.

China Cat Sunflower -> I Know You Rider
May 18, 1972
Kongressaal, Deutsches Museum

Crazy overlooked: A noble, splendiferous C>R in full Europe 72-ness. Patient, exploratory, charming. Driving a distance? Pack this.

The Eleven
Feb. 12, 1969
Fillmore East

I think maybe the length of the intro and the absence of Garcia until about 4:15 are related. In any event, an enormo version with Weir in cutting form. Don't get a whole lot better 'n this.
Eyes Of The World
Oct. 29, 1977
Evans Field House, Northern Illinois University

I'm not as high on this show as some, but this Estimated > Eyes is a stone classic.
Playin' In The Band
June 10, 1973
RFK Stadium

Total Krylon.
Brown Eyed Women
April 25, 1977
Capitol Theater

Upon further reflection, this is top five.
Playin' In The Band
June 10, 1973
RFK Stadium

Peak Playin' stuff. This is one of the greats. Roberto Clemente - Johnny Bench - This - and then Weir sheds his progenitor, slipping through the south viaduct, through Southwest Ridge Run, into the relatively free ocean. Garcia = Neptune. yes? [sure, man] + RFK Playin’. I have the EMS at the ready. They’re all like “Counselor - What does a well-educated Illinoisian do when faced with this ear-trap . . . “ those kinds of questions and requests. Direct and indirect, I’’ll do what I can. [Dust cloud, bubbles, tight snare/wah] - and yr out. Now get your shit together, asshole!
