Spare, almost vulnerable take on this classic. Godchaux brings the church and Garcia brings the stained glass. An American beauty.

You can hear the swagger in their mutterings before they play. And the performance bears that out. Sure, smooth, and effortless.

Letter perfect - the Godchauxs take this to a loftier level. Beautiful dynamic push-and-pull by the whole group.

Dreamy, motionless rendition on a sea of individual human reactions [audience tape]. A wonderful time for this gem.

Super set - and beautiful Sugaree where Weir's guitar takes some of the spotlight. Perfect guitar accompaniment.

Exquisite. Haven't really dug into this one before & I was missing such a gem! The second break does get contentious and tense. Awesome. Smooth as a daffodil's teddy bear. Godchaux in the third break is amazing. Telepathy.

Q_76 - My 1st show was actually 3/21/85. I saw some wonderful shows that year. Knowing that the GD's peak years preceded 1985 never dampened my excitement when I walked onto the floor of an arena and saw the stage set-up and all of the tapers behind the soundboard. I saw, I think, 35 shows or so and had a groovy time at most of them. Some moments stood out and I'm still glad I experienced them in-person. I don't listen to most of the shows I attended (both nights of Merriweather are an exception), but that's totally OK with me.
