Me and My Uncle
Nov. 17, 1971
Albuquerque Civic Auditorium

Two things: (1) the middle of a searing Other One > MAMU > Other One fest and (2) Garcia loses his mind (or mine) at the end of the solo.

Lately I think of Port Chester. Fab 4 Alignment. Limber. Ambidextrous.

St. Stephen

Boston Tea Party

The peak is like a merry-go-round spinning out of and back into control and then, albeit briefly, out and in of control again.

Scarlet Begonias
June 26, 1976
Auditorium Theatre

Full we-got-this mode! A silky Scarlet. Patience and a light touch.
China Cat Sunflower -> I Know You Rider
Dec. 31, 1971
Winterland Arena

Very 1972, but not quite as set and still comparing paint swatches. I love the feeling out sound of this great version. Garcia's Strat is well on its E72 way, however. Kreutzmann is on fire - moving some fucking air! In the transition, they settle into the pocket tout suite.
Dark Star
Feb. 27, 1969
Fillmore West

Timeless. Like lots of people, this is the first one I heard. Epic, ethereal, ideal.
The Eleven
Aug. 22, 1968
Fillmore West

Out of the chute, Garcia's crunchy guitar sets the tone. Also - a sweet recording!
St. Stephen

Fillmore West

What a JOLT! Tight-Superfast-Pumped version. Kreutzmann is thrilling and Garcia is Garcia - a rawer version. And the break is very funny. A group getting comfortable in its own skin. And I need one of those black Les Pauls with the P-90. Sheeee-at.
