Sugaree
June 4, 1976
Paramount Theatre

Another example of how Sugaree thrived in 6/76: Garcia's sweet, mellow, bubbly silver thread guitar and group dynamics both jaunty & subtle. Primo.

County Coliseum

If possible, a very contemplative TJ. Everyone's in apex '73 form, esp. Godchaux who's mixed fairly high to good effect.

St. Stephen

Capitol Theater

Of the heavenly 1970 Capitol Theater St. Stephens. Just a beautiful union between audience and group. Killer Stephen! CRUNCH!

Here Comes Sunshine
Sept. 26, 1973
War Memorial

Show opener - the perseverence is what really sells me on this one. A struggle, but a worthy one b/c the spoils are lush. Sneaky great.

China Cat Sunflower -> I Know You Rider
May 18, 1972
Kongressaal, Deutsches Museum

Crazy overlooked: A noble, splendiferous C>R in full Europe 72-ness. Patient, exploratory, charming. Driving a distance? Pack this.

Tennessee Jed

The Palladium

That May 77 perfect feel for pace. Jaunty, beautiful audience recording of this lil' plum. Chef kiss! Find me a bad May 77 TJ. Go ahead! PS: Garcia is amazing. Just insane.
China Cat Sunflower -> I Know You Rider
June 26, 1974
Providence Civic Center

Amazing how they effortlessly slide into a full-blown introductory narrative. Makes for a unique, psychedelic China > Rider. Quietly contemplative shiz.
Help On The Way > Slipknot > Franklin's Tower
April 9, 1983
Hampton Coliseum

1983 was a renaissance year for this trifecta (see 4/26) - loads of energy and Garcia is in excellent fettle, in a bit of a fury (which is usually good news). Another Hampton success story. Saw my first shows there two years later. True story!
Brown Eyed Women
Sept. 25, 1976
Capital Centre

From our (DC's) late lamented suburban cave, a sprightly rendering with Weir's characteristic clipped, compressed, cheek-a-cheek rhythm a prime player. Although Brown-Eyed Women reached its apex in May '77, Fall '76 is not be sneezed at.
Estimated Prophet
May 18, 1977
Fox Theatre

Deserves more love! From the great Weir intro crack, through Godchaux's elegant piano playing, to Garcia floating like a butterfly in the transition to Eyes, this is pretty much letter perfect. All cylinders.
