Candyman
July 12, 1976
Orpheum Theater
Spare, almost vulnerable take on this classic. Godchaux brings the church and Garcia brings the stained glass. An American beauty.

Estimated Prophet

Uptown Theater
You can hear the swagger in their mutterings before they play. And the performance bears that out. Sure, smooth, and effortless.

It Must Have Been The Roses
Aug. 4, 1974
Philadelphia Civic Center
Letter perfect - the Godchauxs take this to a loftier level. Beautiful dynamic push-and-pull by the whole group.

Tennessee Jed
May 25, 1972
Strand Lyceum
Planting the Flag of Civilization on this tight scorcher. New from factory - Inspector #9. Under penalty of law, this tag may not be YEAH GARCIA!

Candyman

Uptown Theater
Dreamy, motionless rendition on a sea of individual human reactions [audience tape]. A wonderful time for this gem.

Loser
Feb. 19, 1971
Capitol Theater
The whole run has a special place in my heart, but this show, in particular, is a lulu. I don't necessarily have a particular favorite night, but 2/19 has something special going on. One can sense both Kreutzmann's new freedom and his WTF? It's really interesting and the band just cooks.
Tennessee Jed
June 14, 1976
Beacon Theatre
Yeah - that's a fab TJ, DS67. Good snag. 6/14 and 6/15 shows are peaks of that version of the band. And a good June '76 Tennessee Jed is always the tonic. PS - thanks for the word on the 6/17 Sugaree that doesn't exist. I wonder what I was hearing! The trials of listening at work . . .
Let It Grow
Oct. 29, 1977
Evans Field House, Northern Illinois University
Strong version. This version really picks up momentum @4:30 and builds intensity from there. Definitely the most intense Let It Grow from 1977. This show has lots of treasures.
Cassidy
June 14, 1976
Beacon Theatre
Cassidy's a great match for the nuanced, spacious dynamic of June '76. And Garcia's clean, bubbly guitar - mmmwwwaaaa!
Eyes Of The World
Sept. 28, 1977
Paramount Theatre
Did he? I can't completely tell (although I'm a fan of both T-Beans). Whichever guitar it is, it sounds delightful.
