Me and My Uncle
Nov. 17, 1971
Albuquerque Civic Auditorium

Two things: (1) the middle of a searing Other One > MAMU > Other One fest and (2) Garcia loses his mind (or mine) at the end of the solo.

Even on the muddy sources, Garcia is a beacon of clarity, y'know?

Another fan-freakin-tastic '71 TJ with Garcia's natural Strat leading the cavalry. His break is bluegrass meets Blackmore meets Gene Kelly meets Don Rich. And if that were all there were to report, this would still get an up vote from me. But the band is so dialed in and emphatic, that it makes a new song sound like a standard. Like this song has always been around - but not in a derivative way. The Grateful Dead's unique, bizarro gift.

And, on this one, I cite the Download Series, Vol. 4 version, which is really swell.

Awesome version. This or 6/18 does the trick for me, darkstar67.
