Bertha

Camp Randall Field House

At :30 Pig switches from tambourine to organ and we're off! These early '71 performances showcase Kreutzmann reveling in sweet space. Driving.

Loser
Feb. 19, 1971
Capitol Theater

A delicate, tight, searching super early version of a staple. Kruetzmann plays it light and springy and that 1971 Lesh caramel bass guitar!

Tennessee Jed

Boston Music Hall

If you know this smooth customer of a show, you know how drynamic [yes, I typed that] and user friendly this TJ is. An always welcome visitor.

Sugaree
June 26, 1976
Auditorium Theatre

Few things better than a June '76 Sugaree. Garcia with the first Travis Bean just sketches with the lightest, barest of precious metal filaments.

Tennessee Jed

Paramount Northwest Theatre

Summer '72 Jed: Sweet dynamics & precision engineering. Weir & Kreutzmann stir it up during Garcia's guitar break.

China Cat Sunflower -> I Know You Rider

Academy of Music

Kick-ass China > Rider! They're just playing with us during the jams - especially Garcia who knows, by now, he can do pretty much anything. But the whole band is in Sick Zone 7.

Yes, I said Sick Zone 7. Standing by that.
The Eleven
March 1, 1969
Fillmore West

Spiraling completely out of control at times but never even close to being out of control. Is there a moment in these Fillmore West shows that aren't exactly what you want at that moment? 1969 band firing on all cylinders - however many cylinders are involved. Don't know cars.
Dark Star
Dec. 18, 1973
Curtis Hixon Convention Hall

An easy, sure-footed envoy from ... who knows? Almost indulgent - for the audience. Like getting handed a hot towel at the snap of your fingers. Tips appreciated.
Estimated Prophet
June 8, 1977
Winterland Arena

Always forgetting about these shows! This one is Eve Brady and never gets enough praise, encouragement, counseling. This Estimated is inspired, tight as a drum. Garcia happy to share with his hometown the progress he's made on the MuTron. This rendition gets lost in a forest full of beautiful Estimateds, but deserves more sunlight.
