Jed As Tight Little Pop Song. Tight and snappy, enthusiasm for a new classic.

Smooth, silky, and that unique silvery June '76 Garcia sound.

Dark Star
Aug. 21, 1968
Fillmore West

When Garcia changes pickup settings at about 1:48, the game is completely on. Already Dark Star is unlike any song in its graduating class - you can hear the excitement of a newly mastered song, but you can also hear some of what's to come over the next couple of years. + Love these '68 Dark Stars for the Pigpen textures; in a way, his organ is most space age bachelor pad of the entire enterprise. Such a lovely touch.

China Cat Sunflower -> I Know You Rider

I'm a big fan of the non-FG transition. With some exceptions, the FG transition often feels tacked on to me and momentum-killing. AND YET - love '73-'74 China > Riders. First world problems.

Great in-the-pocket pace and guitar dynamics in this Jed - a favorite from a wicked show.
Cold Rain and Snow

Capitol Theater

Silky Cold Rain - Garcia patiently waits for holes to open and then takes what the defense gives him. Such a classic Garcia, silvery '76 guitar break that sounds almost like you walked in in the middle of a conversation. And the sound of the Betty is wow.
