Playin' In The Band
March 21, 1973
Utica Memorial Auditorium

This one's tight & loose - gets into some bop territory at times. Garcia keeps the tight reigns on the wah - heightening the cool as fuck factor. Band is no rush. We'll get there when we get there - that's the spirit!
Cumberland Blues
Nov. 15, 1972
Oklahoma City Music Hall

Dave & I are trying to get work done here! Jesus F! Laying down the flob-i-ty flo like a champion flying prized fluorescent Scottish pig - peak Grateful Dead.
Dark Star
April 20, 1969
Clark University

A Dark Star in which to languish - at least until Garcia begins hinting at dastardly goings-on @5:00 or so (which only develop very gradually). TC's organ frames the serene trip nicely. I wonder if my late friend Steve Goldberg, Clark alumnus, attended. This being a . . . . . . . .spacious . . . . . . . . patient Dark Star and Steve being loudandimpatient - I'm not at all certain they'd mix well. Still, I like to imagine he's there.
Sugaree
Sept. 10, 1972
Hollywood Palladium

Weir steers the craft on this one, which isn't to say that Garcia doesn't have a few bon mots. Because he does (have a few bon mots). Not the cleanest board in the world, but you get what you need here. A soulful, confident Sugaree - the type you'd expect in September, 1972, USA.
Cumberland Blues
Sept. 26, 1972
Stanley Theatre

Another fresh portion from a sizzlin' show. September 72 - this, like many things, is pretty much automatic cruise missile. Even with the edit, this is a nice Cumberland - some beautiful guitar crosstalk.
