The Other One
July 25, 1972
Paramount Theater

I think you feel this one's gonna be special really early - the Strat is ready to swing. The entire group takes a big band approach and Garcia happily assumes the Johnny Hodges role and the guitars get weirder and weirder. Some beautiful stairwell jams (in ... mostly ... a good way) into real undiscovered country (sorry Wm Shatner). A unique Other One. Some of it is just stunning.

Felt Forum - Madison Square Garden

Garcia takes the story line from NFA and steers it in another direction. Top quality creativity and skill.
Not Fade Away

Felt Forum - Madison Square Garden

A little bit of 1970 in 1971 - so spicy and elegant. Really is some weird, great alchemy in this one. Garcia's playing dances between chords, takes a stand, dodges oncoming traffic, and finally leads the narration.

Bickershaw Festival

A show which features lots of sweet window candy - this taste treat is easy to miss. Garcia's singing is full-bodied and a bit cheeky. Strat is set on compressed-attack-mode. Just an insane electric guitar demonstration. Sale made.

Comes a little awkwardly out of the gate but immediately catches fire and just burns a smoooooth trail.
