Me and My Uncle
Nov. 17, 1971
Albuquerque Civic Auditorium

Two things: (1) the middle of a searing Other One > MAMU > Other One fest and (2) Garcia loses his mind (or mine) at the end of the solo.

St. Stephen

Boston Tea Party

The peak is like a merry-go-round spinning out of and back into control and then, albeit briefly, out and in of control again.

Scarlet Begonias
Feb. 27, 1977
Robertson Gym, UC Santa Barbara

One of the most upbeat, positive, fiery Scarlets I've heard - and then the coda just cooks into another galaxy.
Dark Star
April 8, 1971
Boston Music Hall

I love a good concise Dark Star, which this is but it still manages to sneak up. Love the textures from Lesh, Weir, and Garcia, and, when you can hear him, Ned Lagin adds a sweet shimmer. I'll never understand why Lesh didn't bottle this bass sound and put it under 24/7 lock n' key. At around 11 minutes, Weir gets into No Wave territory.
The Other One
Jan. 23, 1970
Honolulu Civic Auditorium

Charles-in-charge level intensity. All the parts of the machine vibe.
Dark Star

Veterans Auditorium

Dark Star in beautiful suspended animation.
Eyes Of The World
April 2, 1973
Boston Garden

Great ooglie mooglies! Perfectly balanced. Kreutzmann's snare just knifes thru. Garcia in top form, natch.
