Beat it on Down The Line
Nov. 14, 1971
Texas Christian University

Searing version - groovy false start, then Garcia soars like an acrobat. Plug in!

The Other One
Feb. 6, 1969
Kiel Auditorium

CRUSH. Hard to believe they brought this intensity and dynamic precision all the time then, but they did! Ace!

Bertha
March 31, 1973
War Memorial

Unknown Genre - iTunes. Kreutzmann drives this hovercraft - as he seems to in all of the great Berthas of this time. Look out for the guitars.

China Cat Sunflower -> I Know You Rider
Sept. 29, 1971
Practice Studio

Have always loved the San Venetia tapes - almost like an x-ray of the GD. You can so hear the guitar architecture. So tempted to make that one word.

Truckin'
July 18, 1972
Rossevelt Stadium

An absolute top 3 Truckin' - the improv is just evil! Garcia's channeling Jimmy Page at times. Crazy. Masterful.
China Cat Sunflower -> I Know You Rider
Feb. 15, 1973
Dane County Coliseum

An elite China>Rider all the better for the absence of the "Feelin' Groovy Jam"
Big River
Sept. 17, 1972
Baltimore Civic Center

What a smoooooth machine.
Scarlet Begonias -> Fire On The Mountain
May 5, 1977
New Haven Coliseum

At least it caused me to re-visit this delightful couplet. One of the all-timers. The Fall '77 backlash is funny - just shows how weird people are. In general. All that said, this still isn't in the 5/8 biozone. 5/8 is so fluid and Fred Astaire effortless. And yet sweaty.

With you. The new format is a drag.
