Cumberland Blues
Dec. 13, 1969
Swing Auditorium

A cozy little delight - hand percussion, contemplation, great stereo drums, and some rip roaring riffage. Comes in under the radar, but worth a visit.

Sugaree
June 18, 1976
Capitol Theatre

As much as I love May 77 Sugarees, Spring 76 is where it's at for me. Subtlety, separation, and Garcia's whispery, silver-dipped guitar breaks.

Candyman
April 19, 1978
Veterans Memorial Auditorium

1978: Prime weather for Candyman. This performance, like many from then, highlights the bleak world of the narrator. Garcia's break: spidery.

Tennessee Jed
Oct. 29, 1971
Allen Theatre

Bubbly, bratty storyboard version. Character & twang for miles. I'd pay to see this band. Two for a tenner? Four please.

Terrapin Station
April 27, 1977
Capitol Theatre

This is a very sweet Terrapin. Everyone's fired up to play it. All you need to do is watch the vid to see the pure joy this brings Garcia. Memorable.

The Eleven
March 30, 1968
Carousel Ballroom

Like a warm rain. They make it sound easy.
New Potato Caboose
June 8, 1969
Fillmore West

For the last one, very high spirits. They sound neither sick of it nor rusty.
Help On The Way > Slipknot > Franklin's Tower
Sept. 24, 1976
William and Mary College Hall

Great tip! I love the HSFs of this time. Group is tight and bossy with it. They didn't exactly struggle with it when it was new in June, but it comes more easily to them now, so they push out. The Slipknot! tries to lose itself at the earliest opportunity. The group, challenged, drives through aggressively, relentlessly, idea following idea, earning a 5 minute drums stretch out and then back to business. A very unique version and the better for it. So many cool details.
The Other One
July 14, 1970
Euphoria Ballroom

Typical mid-1970 Other One, that is: a tornado. Blistering.
Uncle John's Band
May 19, 1977
Fox Theatre

DS67 - Nice choices!
