RFK Stadium

Relaxed and joyous space-age electric guitar semi-ballad.

Bertha

Capitol Theater

Warp speed, precise, slightly unhinged, and driving into the greenish-blue evening.

Jack Straw
Oct. 30, 1971
Taft Auditorium

Godchaux leads a version that seethes with the excitement of a new song.

Brown Eyed Women
May 20, 1973
U.C.

A giggly, slangy Garcia masterpiece (in sweet show sauce). Goes down EZ.

Salt Palace

So good you can practically see the border town.

The Wheel
May 7, 1977
Boston Garden

Love me a beautiful, lush stereo Wheel from May 1977. The 76-early 77 are a peak for this song (to me). Thanks for bringing it (back) to my attention!
Playin' In The Band
April 14, 1972
Tivolis Koncertsal

This is an amazing period for Playin's - they pack a whole lot of headfuck into a relatively short stretch of time. Garcia's helicopter wah hovers over the city.
Loser
April 14, 1972
Tivolis Koncertsal

Lesh lays down the redwood and paces this elegant Loser.
Sugaree
June 11, 1976
Boston Music Hall

Interesting! Some of the '77 Sugarees go on a little too long at times for my taste, but I will listen to this one anew. To me, the Industry Standard is probably still 6/15/1976. The sound from Garcia's guitar is just perfection.
Bird Song
Aug. 27, 1972
Old Renaissance Faire Grounds

Out of the many beautiful Bird Songs, this is as good as it gets. We're sooooo lucky to have this one on delirious analogue 16 mm film.
