Me and My Uncle
Nov. 17, 1971
Albuquerque Civic Auditorium

Two things: (1) the middle of a searing Other One > MAMU > Other One fest and (2) Garcia loses his mind (or mine) at the end of the solo.

Drop dead gorgeous, lithe, and restaurant quality perfect.

Lately I think of Port Chester. Fab 4 Alignment. Limber. Ambidextrous.

St. Stephen

Boston Tea Party

The peak is like a merry-go-round spinning out of and back into control and then, albeit briefly, out and in of control again.

Not Fade Away
Oct. 30, 1971
Taft Auditorium

Yes - this is the sextet. And fabulous (top drawer) music. A deep, nuanced conversation between friends. This one goes out into the Badlands where it hopes, perhaps, to be forgotten. I say: What happens here cannot be so easily brushed-off. And it's true - one historically wonderful band. This is just one of many exhibits. Don't make me Bates-stamp. Please.
Dark Star
May 7, 1969
Polo Field Golden Gate Park

A beautiful, optimistic, outdoors Dark Star. Psychedelic + intimate. Captures of the spirit of the song as well as any. Very underrated. Like Nick Backstrom.
Playin' In The Band
Oct. 2, 1977
Paramount Theatre

Actually think I still like this even more than 11/4. Maybe maybe not. But LUSH. And into a haunting Rhythm Devils (which I don't often say).
Playin' In The Band
Nov. 4, 1977
Cotterell Gym - Colgate University

Saw PATIENCE in one of the notes here - that IS this Playin' - a sterling example of a Fall 77 Playin' and what made them unique and special.
The Other One

Cotterell Gym - Colgate University

Not quite like any other -- in part b/c Godchaux brings some real darkness and melancholy early on. And, as others have said, they go on quite a trip for 5 minutes. A much loved show for good reason.
