Sugaree
June 4, 1976
Paramount Theatre

Another example of how Sugaree thrived in 6/76: Garcia's sweet, mellow, bubbly silver thread guitar and group dynamics both jaunty & subtle. Primo.

Tennessee Jed

If possible, a very contemplative TJ. Everyone's in apex '73 form, esp. Godchaux who's mixed fairly high to good effect.

St. Stephen
Nov. 5, 1970
Capitol Theater

Of the heavenly 1970 Capitol Theater St. Stephens. Just a beautiful union between audience and group. Killer Stephen! CRUNCH!

Here Comes Sunshine
Sept. 26, 1973
War Memorial

Show opener - the perseverence is what really sells me on this one. A struggle, but a worthy one b/c the spoils are lush. Sneaky great.

China Cat Sunflower -> I Know You Rider
May 18, 1972
Kongressaal, Deutsches Museum

Crazy overlooked: A noble, splendiferous C>R in full Europe 72-ness. Patient, exploratory, charming. Driving a distance? Pack this.

The Other One
Nov. 20, 1973
Denver Coliseum

A grower. The interactions and intricacies begin to coalesce into something cool. And then I go, "Oh yeah, a '73 Other One - what can go wrong?" Answer: nada.
They Love Each Other
Nov. 21, 1973
Denver Coliseum

I'd say more mid-tempo than slow (leaning toward up-tempo), but groovy! Still way better than the slow versions - even with the desultory bridge, which has never made sense to me and seems completely tacked on. But this one slithers like a champeen. Dig it!
Terrapin Station
Oct. 16, 1977
Louisiana State U

In a sea of great Terrapins, this one doesn't necessarily stand out, but then you remind yourself of what the group was actually pulling off in these 1977 Terrapins & yeah: it's some special shit.
Scarlet Begonias -> Fire On The Mountain
Nov. 6, 1977
Broome County Arena

Not feeling this one. Better than 10/2/77? Not to me. This is when some sloppiness and forgetfulness began to seep into Scarlet and, while it has some great moments, there are so many better S>Fs of this period, I am withholding my vote! Not that anyone cares - or should care.
Candyman
Dec. 9, 1981
Activity Center - University of Colorado

A very jaunty version - almost speedy, but it works. In no small part this is due to a nice Garcia guitar break. Also, sweet dynamics - gets quieter than quiet at times (as it should).
