Family Dog at the Great Highway

Oversight Alert! Conversational then a violent row ensues. A total taste treat. 1970.

China Cat Sunflower -> I Know You Rider
March 21, 1985
Hampton Coliseum

Voice shot, Garcia hums through his spidery 13 lb. guitar. With a lovely China Cat peak @4:30.

Samson and Delilah
Feb. 26, 1977
Swing Auditorium

Feisty and tight, this Samson is right up there for me with 5/19/1977. Really can't lay it down/out much better than this. Everyone has his/her mambo sauce. Very game.
Dark Star
Nov. 5, 1970
Capitol Theater

Am I insane? I love the sound of this recording. This is music to be gauged as well as listened to. You can feel how this Dark Star filled the big room and the balcony and the loges. And the velvet curtains. + To say nothing of the actual Dark Star performed in this velvety room: dark, lonely, Project Jupiter ambience. So I said more than nothing. Not much. + A Dark Star that should be better known - a dominant version. Supports my general preference for 1970 Dark Stars (if'n I had to pick).
The Other One
Nov. 5, 1970
Capitol Theater

Torrid Other One captured beautifully by Ken Leigh's TC-110. The audience tapes from this run are some of my very favorite Grateful Dead sounds. Yeah Carrion - a rocket ship it is.
Brown Eyed Women
Nov. 1, 1985
Richmond Coliseum

Scoop and I were hysterical when Garcia cocked his head, closed his eyes, and spat out "burns like hell." An '85 highlight. The guitar break is top flight.
Jack Straw
May 8, 1977
Barton Hall - Cornell University

An absolute top version of Weir/Hunter perfection. Garcia's playing is especially inspired and super light-on-its-feet.
