Candyman
June 7, 1977
Winterland Arena

For the longest time, I had a murky recording of this show, but the "probably blow you straight to hell" always stuck with me. And now, clean & clear, this one is still a fabulous 1977 chewy confection.
China Cat Sunflower -> I Know You Rider
May 25, 1974
Campus Stadium, UCSB

Kreutzmann's flying and pushes the pace from close to the start and the band just hurtles through to the finish. At the first break, you can hear Garcia's decided to up the ante as well. The jams are blistering, especially the transition - Garcia and Godchaux pretty much completely levitate.
The Eleven
April 12, 1969
Student Union Ballroom, U. Utah

Dig into this one! Full power and set on scorch.
The Other One
July 1, 1973
Universal Amphitheatre

Garcia leads this one into high speed hair pin turns almost from the outset. This one tastes of urgency for weeks. Kreutzmann keeps things tribal. I'm sorry - that doesn't make any sense. + At about 11:15, Alex Lifeson enters the fray. I mean that as a compliment. Soundtrack to a movie they're making up on the spot. Incidental music. I mean that as a compliment, too.
Truckin'
July 1, 1973
Universal Amphitheatre

Loose, easy, and elastic Truckin'. Never fully heats up, but it's always on a sweet simmer. Garcia takes the Strat out for one of its last spins and it sounds killer. Kruetzmann brings the swing.
