Sugaree
June 18, 1976
Capitol Theatre

As much as I love May 77 Sugarees, Spring 76 is where it's at for me. Subtlety, separation, and Garcia's whispery, silver-dipped guitar breaks.

Candyman
April 19, 1978
Veterans Memorial Auditorium

1978: Prime weather for Candyman. This performance, like many from then, highlights the bleak world of the narrator. Garcia's break: spidery.

Tennessee Jed
Oct. 29, 1971
Allen Theatre

Bubbly, bratty storyboard version. Character & twang for miles. I'd pay to see this band. Two for a tenner? Four please.

Terrapin Station
April 27, 1977
Capitol Theatre

This is a very sweet Terrapin. Everyone's fired up to play it. All you need to do is watch the vid to see the pure joy this brings Garcia. Memorable.

The Other One
Feb. 28, 1970
Family Dog at the Great Highway

Oversight Alert! Conversational then a violent row ensues. A total taste treat. 1970.

Eyes Of The World
Oct. 25, 1973
Dane County Coliseum

Dave & me: this should have more votes. Sunshiney and tight as a fucking drum. Or durum wheat. Both. Neither. Bother. I've covered it all (pretty much). A great, undervalued Eyes O' the World.
Scarlet Begonias -> Fire On The Mountain
Oct. 21, 1983
Worcester Centrum

I like the ambience of the AUD. Lots of 1983 energy - Garcia aiming high. 13 lb. guitar and all. One of the better 80s Scarlet>Fires. BanD. Nice AUD participation early transition. Dies out just at the right time. Then some very high quality on-stage music.
The Music Never Stopped
May 22, 1977
The Sportatorium

That's a lot of Music tucked into <7 minutes. Really takes care of any Music Never Stopped needs.
Scarlet Begonias -> Fire On The Mountain

Barton Hall - Cornell University
