Relaxed and joyous space-age electric guitar semi-ballad.

Warp speed, precise, slightly unhinged, and driving into the greenish-blue evening.

Godchaux leads a version that seethes with the excitement of a new song.

A giggly, slangy Garcia masterpiece (in sweet show sauce). Goes down EZ.

Candyman
June 4, 1977
The Forum

Candyman seems like it would be the ultimate Spring 1977 first set song - smooth, mysterious, sneaky - but they barely played it. So soak this one in. I don't even imagine the band moving while delivering these goods. No need: shouldn't have to - shouldn't have to.
Help On The Way > Slipknot > Franklin's Tower
July 12, 1976
Orpheum Theater

Super funky Garcia break in Help - a loose, relaxed rendition of some pretty fucking crazy guitar. Band is synced. Slipknot! flows and hits several peak moments of congestion.
Sugaree
April 27, 1977
Capitol Theatre

This is one of those songs that were so consistently great during the Spring of 77, its hard to pick one. There's so much going on in this one and yet all sounds so simple and singular.
Row Jimmy
March 31, 1973
War Memorial

Some people say that '74 or '76 are the peak Row Jimmy years. I call these people The Police. This stereophonic love seat makes a great case for when the song was new and the band had that new song smell. Kruetzmann is a master - and Garcia, sans slide, delivers suave, smooth banter. Love the pace on this one. Chip Kelly would be proud. I guess.
The Other One

Pirates World

Fucking Pirates World! Hence the extreme swagger. Effortless aggression. Garcia in fine fettle, natch. This one should have way more votes. Garcia glides into double-time and its like a foot rub. Kreutzmann-Hart Part I showing its quality. Great showcase for them.
