Smooth with wicked edges in all the right places!

China Cat Sunflower -> I Know You Rider

Overlooked, patient little gemerald.

Bright, snappy, and full of mello P&V.

From the opening little parlay, hooked.

China Cat Sunflower -> I Know You Rider
April 29, 1971
Fillmore East

This one is the sound of a band that knows it can do pretty much anything. Smooth and fiery.

Playin' In The Band
March 22, 1972
Academy of Music

I just luuuuuuv late-71/pre-Europe-72 span of Playin'. The regal Weir drives much of this jazzbo hovercraft, but single drummer Kreutzmann (let's call him SDK) is the engine - and it fucking purrs.
Scarlet Begonias -> Fire On The Mountain
April 23, 1977
Springfield Civic Center

This one's a favorite. Scarlet has a nice growl to it -- really good dynamics. In Fire, Garcia makes one of his sweetest envelope filter entries. (makes international symbol of "mmmwwwaaa" - Chef kissing his fingertips)
The Eleven
Jan. 17, 1969
Civic Auditorium

Just revisited quite a while later and yeah - underpants & socks. Killer. Underappreciated. Underpantspreciated.
Dark Star
Feb. 28, 1969
Fillmore West

Classic peak-Dark Star era - part of it is the ribbons of, era, sound, era, smuggled in by TC. Perfect fit with, era, Garcia's psychedelic SG. Full exploration mode. era.
The Other One
Feb. 19, 1973
International Amphitheatre

Where the fuck has show been? Just about at their space rock best - Lesh and Garcia spar, dodge, parry, and finally split the difference. And this comes in the middle of just a whole set-long jam. Dag!
