Stella Blue
May 18, 1977
Fox Theatre

A patient beast - the entrance is regal and trancelike arising as it does from an extended Garcia soliloquy. The room is dead silent. Talk about setting the table. That said, this one has plenty of magna on its own. A beautiful version with Godchaux leaning toward classical phrasing. And Garcia's guitar break is just epic. The whole song is - this is top shelf stuff. Top shelf.
The Other One
May 18, 1977
Fox Theatre

As is customary for Spring 77 Other Ones, Garcia is exorcising . . . something. Just furious, dense, pressure-cooked guitar playing. grendel is dead-on. Under-appreciated vintage. Scortching!
China Cat Sunflower -> I Know You Rider
April 9, 1982
Community War Memorial Auditorium

Garcia's brassy latticework pickin' propels this smoker - like so many early 80s C>Rs.
Terrapin Station

Auditorium Theatre

Delicate and patient - like most of this great show.
Playin' In The Band

Auditorium Theatre

A smooth and spacey version. It might get more love if there were a soundboard.
