It Must Have Been The Roses
June 18, 1974
Freedom Hall

In addition to the great playing throughout this first set, you can grin at the several musical references to the Derby that the boys threw in.

Light first half of a titanic encore. The anniversary's coming up, might as well give the show a listen...

I know most folks are indifferent re this song, but this type of mid-tempo bouncing shuffle is one of the things I love most about this band.

Not Fade Away
Sept. 18, 1970
Fillmore East

Yeah, this one smokes!
Scarlet Begonias -> Fire On The Mountain
April 20, 1984
Philadelphia Civic Center

holy crap, this really is *that* good. Massive version. Crowd goes nuts during Scarlet as Jerry cuts open early and never lets up. First-flight Scarlet with a killer transition and enough goo to construct a home for you and your family. And then the Fire.
Scarlet Begonias -> Fire On The Mountain
Sept. 1, 1979
Holleder Memorial Stadium

Wow, monster pairing with a beastly Fire!
Morning Dew
Feb. 24, 1974
Winterland Arena

Oh wow, how have I never heard this before? Monster performance, Jerry's giving it his all vocally, and the > from a great Star just make everything better.
Playin' In The Band
Nov. 19, 1972
Hofheinz Pavilion

Overshadowed from the night before, and not nearly as intense, but still a great performance from a year of them. Lots of slow, cool, exploratory lines, and Jerry kicks a few riffs around that make everything very interesting. Fall '72!
