It Must Have Been The Roses
June 18, 1974
Freedom Hall

In addition to the great playing throughout this first set, you can grin at the several musical references to the Derby that the boys threw in.

Light first half of a titanic encore. The anniversary's coming up, might as well give the show a listen...

I know most folks are indifferent re this song, but this type of mid-tempo bouncing shuffle is one of the things I love most about this band.

Date's wrong. Usually not a fan of this tune, but the jam blows up mid-song.
St. Stephen

Worth a listen from the jamming from "Space" into "Stephen," and I find it interesting how the band move through those conceptual spaces in the transition. You can almost here when the first jam gives way to a "Stephen" jam.
Feel Like A Stranger

I loved Brent's organ and synth colors at the start of this. The vocal jam is alright, and Garcia plays a short but tight lead. This is the opener of what I believe was Trey Anastasio's first GD concert.

(He makes up for it in the ending vocal jam, btw).

This is perfect and everything I love about 80s Dead. I love Jerry with an organ player!
