Brent's playing goes far outside of the rhythmic structures the rest of the band is using to support him, shaking them out of their complacency.

Acceptable slide playing from Bobby. Nice extended organ solo, MIDI sax solo. Whole band playing blues choruses gives first set particular vibe.

Looser and hotter than its more famous brethren from the following night, but Garcia gets buried some in the mix.

To my ears, the Betty Boards usually have a fair amount of Keith. Come hear why.

Not Fade Away

Assembly Hall

I'm usually a fan of 70s "NFA"s, and this one seemed to be in a similar vein. Jerry seems patient on this one, letting it build through collective effort and not force of will, and the result is something special.

The slight accelerando before the "TS" section gives a lift, and while there's little jamming in the song proper, it gives way to a short but sweet "Space." The AUD tape on the archive is a decent one, and lets you hear the "Space" come at you.

Def. is the fastest I've heard (does anyone know one faster?). Loved hearing Jerry stretching his technique on this one, and landing some quirky, interesting, and mostly clean lines.

Stellar version. I checked out this show bc my man cgarces recommended it elsewhere. Wild opener to a great show.
Scarlet Begonias -> Fire On The Mountain

this whole show is one of Dave's favorites from the entire year, FYI. (edit because I didn't want to keep posting on this:) in every aspect of this version, you hear each band member doing their individual best to make even the simplest idea incredibly musical.
