Great early-70s vibe on this (esp. w/ Moore's AUD). Honky-tonk Keith!

Love the double opener, typically great playing from the time. Keith fans esp. should know this Palladium run.

Never really expands beyond the song’s material, but hard and well-played. Hear in context of set 2.

Close Encounters Jam

While his varied colors are an obvious treat, listen to his sound bounce around the auditorium! Must have freaked quite a few Heads out with this one…

After big build up in drums, the opening jam is intense and multilayered. It subsides some and Jerry/Phil seem to take control of jam, moving into the verse material. Band vamps while Jerry’s triplets float above; it seems like his lines swirl continually around the band’s changing support, creating an anchor while the rest of the room spins and swims. Starts to move towards deeper space around 10:20-ish, but regroups for reprise. The transition into Jerry's solo is also hot.

I don't care for second sets that start this way, but there are some nice leads in here.

As hot as advertised. The middle section deserves another mention, because there's some great stuff there.

Worth a listen. The cascade into the final statements of the refrain is such a nice moment.
