Box of Rain

The almost famous and last "rain show". It follows Rain in the 2nd set. Phil is great and Jerry is locked in for this one.

U.S. Blues (Wave That Flag)
July 27, 1974
Civic Center

This is the only version of U.S. Blues that rocks out like this.To my ears this is the best version not only because of the jam but then the segue into Promised Land. Also because it was completely unexpected upon my first listen which makes it even better.
Dark Star
Jan. 10, 1979
Nassau Coliseum

One of the better post-1974 versions. To my ears it may even be a top version between the 1978-1984 versions. However the 89-91 versions are still above it. To a point, the whole 1/10/79 show is really good and I think it flies under the radar when compared to other shows of the era. The Dark Star is a centerpiece of this show flanked with a bunch of well played tunes.
Eyes Of The World
Oct. 19, 1974
Winterland Arena

To me this is the definitive version of this song. The Branford version from 3/29/90 gets a lot of love and deservedly so. However that is a one-off, yet wonderful performance. This version from 10/19/74 represents the band at one of their absolute peaks. Between the tight playing, Jerry's solos, and the distinctive outro jam this tune had in 73-74, this version is the best of all of that.

Great American Music Hall

This is the last of the many great and complete versions from 1973-1974. This one just happens to have been played in 1975.
Sugaree
Oct. 16, 1977
Louisiana State U

Sugaree grew its wings in 1976 and it soared in 1977. With all of the great versions from 1977, this one is up there for me.
