Had to add this one from my personal favorite memories, after Jerry’s belting out, “Take that ride Again” just slams into his solo, many many highligh

Ramble On Rose
Dec. 30, 1983
Civic Auditorium

Had to add this version just for the “The Grass Ain’t Greener, the Wine Ain’t Sweeter…” line. Probably the best version I saw live. Give it a listen.

China Cat Sunflower -> I Know You Rider
Sept. 6, 1980
State Fairgrounds

I remember this show well, When they started China> Rider my buddy Toad came over, “Woow, man they’re not going to take a break tonight”, understandable as this was the 11th song of the 1st set and then a Promised Land to boot. Great, Great version and the whole show can have many nominating versions. Give it a listen and vote.
To Lay Me Down
March 27, 1988
Hampton Coliseum

Love how Jerry emphatically sings the first line. A break-out version, first one in almost 5 years, great version from a truly great late 80’s show. This show was released in the Download Series Vol #5 and available on You-Tube. One of the best three night runs I saw.
To Lay Me Down
May 4, 1981
The Spectrum

I have to give a nod to this version, very sweetly sung by all. It was the first time I saw an electric version of “To Lay Me Down”. Garcia’s solo is also very sedate, nothing fancy, very rhythmic and solid. The vocal finale is very powerful, with nicely placed keyboard run by Mydland and a few power chords by Lesh. Again nothing over the top but a solid, very sweet version. Both of the Spring ’81 Philly shows are fantastic, give them a listen.
To Lay Me Down

The Omni

The last “To Lay Me Down” I saw live, the last Mydland version and the first one on 1990. Very good version and it should have more votes. The MIDI flute solo is precious and the “To Tell Sweet Lies” line is just exactly perfect. These three nights in Atlanta were amazing, a lot of Heady versions for sure, with some of the best sounding SBD’s out there since all were recorded in multi-track for Without A Net, there is a real spaciousness to the sound, fully enveloping you. Give the entire 3-night run a listen.

This one gives me chills, wish I was there. The most emotionally sung version I know. Love the added Bruce runs up and down during the early verses. The finale coda is off the charts, Jerry belting it out with all he has. My mom was in my truck in St. Augustine once and this version was on, “That was nice”, she says, Ya mom, that was a good one.
