Goin' Down The Road Feelin' Bad

Yale Bowl, Yale University

A great vesion from ’71 with a unique Darkness Darkness transition jam after the “We bid you Goodnight” coda. Very deep, spiritual interplay.

Mother's Day Dead, One of the best GDTR from the early 80's, Weir is just thrashing chords during the second jam, check it out

A Major Break-Out, you must hear the crown reaction, none of the '83 versions really stand out, but this needs to be heard.

Great version from a great show, I love how Jerry growls the “Last fair deal…” line great stuff, foreshadowing the Werewolves to come.

Aiko Aiko

Field House - Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute

The first time I saw Aiko Aiko, great singing by Garcia, clearly having a blast. RPI is an underrated show, with many, many highlights.

Deer Creek Music Center

Good version, I really like what Hornsby added, (I saw him before he joined the band, mid-80’s and Jack Straw was one of the covers he played) and in general the 100 or shows with Hornsby are worth a listen. That said, this is not a top 3 Jack Straw IMHO, so I won’t vote for it. All that have, should listen to every Jack Straw listed from ’78 thru 1980, there are many that blow this one away.

This show was middle point of a really fun summer tour, were we lived by the motto. “Are we now closer to home, or the next show?” Many other Heady versions from this tour, SPAC, Merriweather, Cuyahogga Falls, Indy…

Carrier Dome, Syracuse U

One of my favorite later versions, it was hard to gauge how hot these Carrier Dome shows where, the place was massive, even in the “hot spot” where we taped, it just lacked any intimacy. But the tapes don’t lie, a great version from an underappreciated year, (No Official Releases!!) I saw 31 shows in ’84 and I remember a few more Heady versions that need to be nominated.

One of the best Brent versions for sure, very fiery conclusion, Jerry fanning, Phil dropping bombs, Weir does cut of the jam a few bars too soon, it is the opener. Fall ’79 is an underrated era, most of the shows I have listened to are top notch and this show has many Heady versions.

Again a nomination from CrackStraw, (Yes that is his REAL name), and a very fine version. This entire show (RT Vol. 1 No. 4), has many Heady version, listen and vote.
