This was my favorite until I heard 4/17/72, which is almost identical, except for Keith's piano runs, which are really cool, but not to be found here.

Agree, even better than 5/24/72. Keith is up in mix, and as somebody else said, doing everything right. The chorus vocals are perfect, which is rare for this song, and I give Billy Kreutzmann his due here, as the one drummer swing of the early seventies rears proudly here. There are some decent later 70s versions, but '72 is where it peaked - on April 17th to be precise.
China Cat Sunflower -> I Know You Rider

The China Cat melted my face so badly, especially the solo. Not crazy about the overdubbed vocals on I Know You Rider. I usually program either the 4/26/72 or 5/24/72 Rider after the 5/3/72 China Cat, where the transition is all but undetectable.

Slightly better than the only other E72 performance (4/11/72). The 1977 versions are also very good (May 1977 Box Set, Winterland June 1977, October Rumpus).

Believe it or not, this was the first version I ever heard. Very strong, straight-out rocker version. A must have, with a great lead into Johnny.
