Anyone have a time stamp on the bungled vocals? I'm looking for a best of Persian I'm coming all this damn point this is it however I've listened to it a few times and don't hear any vocal muffs. The Ghost in the Machine

This issue the Ladies and Gentlemen version, right? Nah, nothing released comes close. There are only two pre Hiatus versions released anyway, and as cool as it may have sounded on stage in 1977, not even Betty could make this song sound better in 77 than it did in 71 at the Fillmore East. Maybe it was a magical performance. Maybe they're still to be released versions that might rival this one but I rarely say this is the best.

I have always loved this song alongside Dark Star as well. The two just seem to go together. Not that this comment is going to reach many eyes at this point, but for what it's worth: I think they dropped Bird Song, Here Comes Sunshine, and China Cat Sunflower because Bobby didn't like playing them. And I think he didn't like playing them because they were too difficult for him. They all require spot-on picking from Weir that has to be in precision time with Jerry. You will hear in post-hiatus versions of Bird Song, Jerry plays Bobby's part, in which the last note in the main theme goes down instead of up, and Bobby plays chords. Nobody plays Jerry's part, which makes those 80s and 90s versions sound odd to me. China Cat in the 80s features some lazy playing on Bobby's part. He often starts out playing the interactive China-weave with Jerry, but Peters out after a few measures and lets Garcia pick up the tab. I think Bobby just decided screw it, I don't feel like looking at my hands through every Bird Song to make sure I get it right. I think he preferred looking at the crowd and rock 'n rollin'.

Jerry completely shreds up this solo. It would be unwise not to check this one out if you're looking for the BOAT.
