Sugaree
July 30, 1983
Ventura County Fairgrounds

During this Sugaree, that cranky old beast, The Grateful Dead, wakes up and starts churning, eating all the energy from the crowd, and fire emerges.

Saint of Circumstance
May 16, 1981
Barton Hall - Cornell University

BOOM! We discover on this Spring day we are SAINTS. The band begins climbing a crescendo, and we follow it...and fight the bulls of fate and time

Friend of the Devil
July 4, 1984
Five Seasons Center

beautiful. Rich, luscious tapestries painted, Garcia shimmering inside and out, and Brent scat humming along with his Rhodes for awesomeness

The Other One
March 18, 1988
Henry J. Kaiser Auditorium

Emerging out of space, this Other One has some heat along with Weir's distorted vocals squashing your brain.

Throwing Stones
March 18, 1988
Henry J. Kaiser Auditorium

A song I rarely listen to, this one has balls. Weir leads the band through a song that would rock a stadium filled with Metalheads, let alone Deadfans

The Music Never Stopped
Aug. 23, 1980
Alpine Valley Music Theater

Very solid version. Pleasantly surprised me, which is why I keep coming back. Turn it up and rock it out. The crowd knows a homerun when they see it!
Jack Straw
June 25, 1985
Blossom Music Center

I don't think this is the best Jack Straw of the year, or the decade. But it is a good 1985 straw with the kind of energy you'd expect in that year: sizzling.
The Music Never Stopped
June 9, 1977
Winterland Arena

Much better than 5/9/77's Music. This is raw power right here.
Sugaree
March 25, 1985
Springfield Civic Center

Jerry gets transfixed by his triplett solo and can't stop and the crowd roar gets higher and higher. Rough but on fire. The smell of burning plastic right here.
Walking Blues
March 24, 1990
Knickerbocker Arena

The first one I fell in love with. This sets the standard.
