Yes, that's Bobby's odd singing. He's using a lower sort of timbre for his vocal style. I suspect he was either wasted, trying over-hard to vamp as a way of changing things up, or both. I suspect the first. Some nights the pre-show indulgences got away from them. My favorite part is the earth-shaking Phil bombs you get here and there, e.g. 5:41. A very cool little moment is when the band lapse into Willie Dixon / Howlin' Wolf's "Spoonful" for a few moments. Jerry teased the idea and Brent makes it explicit at 7:03. I'm going to vote this version up based on this little Easter egg.

It's like a ghost story this time, like some backwoods tale. Like you've never heard this song before, like the first time. Out of all time. That's musical genius people. And most people have missed it.

Been listening to the single candidate HV songs. Sometimes I conclude, "Yeah I get that they didn't want to put this into rotation." On this song my immediate reaction was, "Why oh why did they not perform this more?"

<Obligatory "should be higher" comment.> Phenomenal the way the guitar sound, chording, and even some varied notes of the melody perhaps (?) are matched to the opening 50's rock sound of Promised Land.

How is this one not getting voted up higher? I *love* it. Just for fun, I'm curating my own Ziggy's picks/Dead concert (favorite songs/versions artificially strung together in imitation of a show). I want to use an audio snip of the "You just got up. We've been up since noon!" comment followed by the final rehearsal version. In which case, maybe make a beginning/end bookend and put the final So Many Roads on it.
