Sure it's only a tease that's aborted for El Paso, but it's Veneta, so it has to be the best!

High energy. Part of a very underrated show.

This version is great and has the cool segment with Phil addressing the rumor he's quitting in the tuning after the song.

Overall, 12/1/79 is the best version, but the end jam in this one is very cool and rivals Dekalb.

I tried to listen to this show on my morning walk today for its anniversary, and this Playin' sequence really is unlistenable garbage and the most overrated thing the GD ever played. I get that adding some dissonance to songs/jams can build up tension/release in a really cool way, but there is a segment as long as Stairway To Heaven that is just terrible non-musical noise. How anyone can listen to that and think wow, that's great (or even has any musical value at all) is beyond me. The MLB jam that follows is cool, but there are others just as cool that you don't need to go through that sort of torture for, too. This show is definitely permanently out of my rotation. The Playin' on the 30th is miles better than this.

This is nice. There is a new FOB recording on bt.etree (look for the story about crutches...) that sounds great - very much up front sounding with a crowd that is enthusiastic but not intrusive. If you like this show, give it a listen.

I'm a little surprised this one is this low. I've always thought it was pretty well known as one of the better versions, especially with the early official release on DP. There are so many great versions of this song that I don't think I'd call it my favorite (I'm partial to the well known Cornell & Augusta versions plus have a soft spot for Ventura 84), but it's probably top 10-15 or so for me, which is still saying something for a song that has at least 100 versions that can totally blow you away.
