Terrapin was the song that got me on the bus(studio version), so I hold versions of this song to a higher standard than others. That being said, this one’s my favorite. It always blows my mind that this is the first one they ever played live. Jerry nails all the lyrics, and his solos and leads are incredible. He sounds like he’s been playing the song for as long as he had lived up to that point. What’s also interesting is that Bobby and Donna don’t sing backup on this one, letting Jerry’s storyteller vocals shine. ‘77-‘79 Terrapins are the best, in my opinion, but listen to 2/14/86 also. Though nowhere near the level of this one, especially with the forgotten lyrics after the first solo of Lady With a Fan, Jerry plays the solos impeccably, especially the outro one. He puts a little extra flair on it that makes it stand out. But, overall, this Terrapin is ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
