Drums -> Space
Dec. 31, 1981
Oakland Auditorium

Jerry and Bobby create a beautiful space before TOO. A conversation in strings. Billy and Mickey create primal, carnivorous music. Hunting music.

Pretty Peggy O

What a crown jewel Pretty Peggy O can be. A truly tender version that washes away all my worries. These 74 versions are quite special.

Me and My Uncle

The Dead take the Parisians through a cowboys surrealist day dream. Check out how both Keith and Jerry are utterly locked into the music.

Blossoms and blooms like a shining red rose. I really love the energy for this show.

1974 and Ship of Fools go together like peanut butter and jelly. Full of emotion. They're really giving their all in this.

The Other One
May 10, 1972
Concertgebouw

WARNING:High contents of cosmic lysergic ooze present in this recording. Probably one of the most acidic The Other One’s I’ve ever heard, this just slays me every time I hear it. A DNA dissolving molecular monster that goes DEEP. Love the Keith and Jerry interplay on this so much. From the depths of the void, to Dark Star territories, to static sound, to Olympic jazz workouts. This has it all. Not for the faint of heart, but if you’re willing, it’s worth it. Lots of deep space on this one.
China Cat Sunflower -> I Know You Rider

Nassau Coliseum

Just perfect. Significant for the first Feelin’ Groovy transition ever performed with China>Rider, the whole suite is played so beautifully and that transition has some of the most interesting ideas I’ve heard from a China Rider. Definitely a top 5 for me.
Eyes Of The World

P.N.E. Coliseum

If definitive was ever a word used to describe a song, this version would fit the bill by a long shot. Just a well rounded incredible sounding eyes that just warms your heart while taking your mind for a spin. Incredibly interplay that’s just damn near perfect. No bullshit here. Especially coming out of that Nobody’s fault but mine, feels like Dorothy landing in Oz after the tornado blasts her and Toto into this magical, magical land. “Toto, I’ve got a feeling we’re not in Kansas anymore.”

If we’re talking about China>Rider as a whole this has got to be one of the most fluid sounding versions of this suite I’ve ever heard. Not a note missed, just sublime and powerful. I’m usually very picky when it comes to China>Rider but man this is great great version
