Drums -> Space
Dec. 31, 1981
Oakland Auditorium

Jerry and Bobby create a beautiful space before TOO. A conversation in strings. Billy and Mickey create primal, carnivorous music. Hunting music.

Pretty Peggy O

Palais Des Sports

What a crown jewel Pretty Peggy O can be. A truly tender version that washes away all my worries. These 74 versions are quite special.

Me and My Uncle
Sept. 21, 1974
Palais Des Sports

The Dead take the Parisians through a cowboys surrealist day dream. Check out how both Keith and Jerry are utterly locked into the music.

Blossoms and blooms like a shining red rose. I really love the energy for this show.

1974 and Ship of Fools go together like peanut butter and jelly. Full of emotion. They're really giving their all in this.

Playin' In The Band
Sept. 9, 1972
Hollywood Palladium

A spellbinding fairy like Playin’. Fall 72 is a monumental year for these jam vehicles and Playin’ is no exception. This is an elegant version that will take you on a real journey, it just hits the brain just right. Mystical and esoteric in nature, the jam section is able to cover a lot of ground without really losing any focus whatsoever. An alchemical magic carpet ride of a Playin’. I highly suggest listening with all the lights off in your room to get the full effect of its awesomeness.
Dark Star
Nov. 19, 1972
Hofheinz Pavilion

This is a freaking awesome Dark Star. Phil is the star of the show for me on this one. I love the Clementine riff in B minor that he'll throw around every once and a while. His bass solo post space is also something to take note of. The star of this show is that early Weather Report Suite Prelude that somehow fits perfectly in this jam and if that jam were to go further, would be an all timer of a WRS. Just a great, jammed out Dark Star.
Eyes Of The World
Sept. 28, 1976
Onondaga County War Memorial

Jam so good I made it my name on this site. All jokes aside the Eyes itself is genuinely well played and I love the speed. The way the song dissolved into the Tango still sends chills down my spine. Dark and Macabre with shades of the far east. Carrion once again you’re spot on with you’re reviews. Not many people would make that connection to Ethiopiques and it makes me happy knowing another head hears these things as well. Cheers to you and cheers to this Eyes jam.
Shakedown Street

Rainbow Theater

My go to version for a while. Easy to get lost in the funk on this one. Highly recommend!
Dark Star
Dec. 18, 1973
Curtis Hixon Convention Hall

Bubbling is certainly the word. The beginning is honestly quite peaceful and sharp. I love the mini MLB jam that danced around the Dark Star theme for only a short time. After the verse we go into electrical Nubian landscapes. This makes my head feel like a balloon that’s just waiting to pop at any moment(in a good way of course). There are little warps of electricity that express a feeling of peaking through and seeing too much. Especially here it seemed like the band ventured far and far and far and had lost a piece of themselves in the process. To express such primal emotions through electronic sound waves conjures feelings of existential dread. Electrical warps envelope the mind in a frenzy as it’s up to Billy to pull us out of that electric waking nightmare. The day is saved, a jump back into reality. Time to boogie down to Eyes of the World. WHAT a ride. Who knows if the band ever recovered after those 2 nights in Florida.
